Extensive budget cuts to Sacramento's already ravaged public mental-health system will continue into the fall with devastating consequences...

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) Training Provided to Children’s Programs

 

Turning Point’s children’s programs were recently selected to become PCIT certified.  This training will enhance services for two to eight-year-olds and will establish the agency as having best practices for this age group. A “train the trainer” model will allow Turning Point to keep training and producing PCIT certified therapists. UC Davis is funded by MHSA to provide this training in Northern California.

Award pending to Turning Point Community Programs in Merced County

The Executive Council for the Continuum of Care in Merced County awarded Turning Point a $248,000 HUD grant for two years.  This will provide permanent supportive housing for homeless mentally ill.   Six one-bedroom apartments in Merced County will be secured as well as a housing position. Turning Point CEO John Buck said, “This really allows us to enhance services for our clients in Merced County, by providing housing first to homeless mentally ill. Once folks have housing, theyare more receptive to treatment."

 

Cosumnes River College (CRC) Partners with Turning Point to offer classes to members

Turning Point Selected for

Homeless Assistance Funding

Ron Gilbert, Director of Adult Services in Stanislaus and Merced Counties, successfully applied for 2007 McKinney-Vento homeless assistance funds and garnered $292,572 to be used over a three-year period to house mentally ill homeless.

Turning Point Video Wins 2008 CAPIO Award

Honoring Excellence in Communications

The California Association of Public Information Officials chose Turning Point's 30th Anniversary and web video for its Award of Distinction for Video Production. Communications Director Jill Estroff produced the video on a shoestring budget, highlighting the difference caring staff makes for members.

Turning Point Awarded New MHSA ACT program in Placer County

This Assertive Community Treatment program will work with 35 mentally ill adults who are at risk for or involved with the criminal justice system. It will also serve those at risk of psychiatric hospitalization, residential care or out-of-home placement. ACT programs use multidisciplinary teams including social workers, nurses, counselors, rehabilitation experts and psychiatrists.

Pine Tree Gardens to Merge with Turning Point

Pine Tree Gardens, a successful mental health facility in Davis, approached Turning Point in 2006 to consider a friendly, supportive merger.  Both programs' missions are very similar, based on offering a path to mental health by giving respect, support, hope, and caring to those struggling with mental illness.  John Buck, CEO of Turning Point Community Programs said, "We are thrilled to welcome Pine Tree Gardens to the Turning Point family of programs."
